After much searching I found the British cemetery seven years ago; a corner of a foreign field hidden in the modern sprawl of houses and apartments that have grown up around it during the last four hundred years.
FindMyPast.com has now added the remaining English Counties (Northumberland, Cumberland, Westmorland) and the missing Gateshead district records into the county of Durham. Therefore all English counties are now complete and online.
Scanning of Welsh records is well underway and some data from Wales should be available in the next 4 to 6 weeks.

Following programmes like the BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are?, interest in genealogy has grown rapidly in recent years. Some commercial companies charge as much as GBP30.00 for a birth certificate but each certificate costs from just GBP7.00 if you order online via Directgov.
Public information about registering births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales has moved from the GRO (General Register Office) website and is now available on the government’s supersite, Directgov, from 7 April 2009 and Free Genealogy has more information about how, when and where you can build your Family Tree without spending a fortune.
ProGenealogists has issued two lists of popular genealogy resources: the 50 most popular genealogy web sites and the 25 most popular blogs (web logs). Free-Genealogy Blog details down the first announcement covering the top 50 Free Genealogy sites on the web: Pity Free-Genealogy was not mentioned but this is a very US focused list.
This list was created in the first quarter of 2009. It was developed from a list of criteria explained in an article published in the Digital Genealogist, edited by Elizabeth Kelley Kerstens. The 2008 ranking is given in parenthesis after the website description. Sites new to the list for 2009 are marked with *.

FamilySearch is going through a period of expansion. Among the latest additions to the records are Irish birth, marriage, and death entries covering the period 1864-1958, and non-Catholic marriages from 1845-1863. Records for the whole of Ireland are included up to 1921, but from 1922 onwards the records relate only to the Republic of Ireland; there are 23 million entries in all.

Howard H. Metcalfe has released an updated version of Personal Ancestry Writer II (PAWriter II), a free genealogy program for Macintosh systems. Two versions are available: one for the OS X operating system and another for OS 9. Modelled off old Ancestral systems, PAF, it's worth a look for all your Mac fans..

The Maps tool on Genes Reunited is pretty cool. When you search for your ancestors on their census records you see your search results in a list but they are also plotted a map. Look out for the "show results on a map" link when searching the census records.
Genes Reunited have recently had a make-over and introduced some exciting new key features including a new mini-tree builder, a new video page, a new search function and new top tips to help members on their journey to discovering their past.
Charles River Ventures, a Waltham, Massachusetts venture capital firm, has added to its existing investment in California-based Geni Inc., a private genealogy website, with a $5 million Series C funding round, according to published reports. Charles River Ventures was joined in the Series C funding by fellow return backer Founders Fund of San Francisco, website PE Hub reports. Founded in 2006, Geni had raised $11.5 million before the most recent financing round.
